Getting Ready at Great Marsh Estate
The day started with Kate and Michael getting ready surrounded by their closest friends and family. The morning had such a calm and joyful energy, filled with all the little moments that make a wedding day feel so special.
Kate spent the morning with her bridesmaids, enjoying the excitement before the ceremony. We captured bridal details, getting-ready moments, and sweet portraits with her bridesmaids. Michael also had time with his groomsmen before the day officially began, which gave us the perfect opportunity for relaxed and timeless wedding party photos.

A Sweet Private Vow Exchange
Before the ceremony, Kate and Michael shared a private vow exchange without seeing each other. Standing back-to-back around the corner of the estate, they held hands and read their handwritten vows, creating an intimate moment while still saving the excitement of seeing one another for the ceremony.
It gave them a chance to slow down, be fully present, and connect before the celebration began, making it one of the most emotional and romantic parts of the entire day.
Private vows like these are such a beautiful option for couples who want a quiet, meaningful moment together while still keeping the tradition of not seeing each other before walking down the aisle. For Kate and Michael, it perfectly reflected the timeless and romantic atmosphere they had envisioned for their wedding.

A Romantic Virginia Wedding Ceremony
Their ceremony at Great Marsh Estate was heartfelt and beautiful. Surrounded by their family and friends, Kate and Michael exchanged vows in such a timeless setting. The entire ceremony felt elegant, romantic, and full of meaning.
After the ceremony, we moved into wedding party portraits and family portraits around the venue. Great Marsh Estate has so many beautiful locations for photos, both outside and inside the venue. From the architecture to the natural light and open spaces, every corner gave us something beautiful to work with.

Documentary and Editorial Wedding Photography
For this wedding, I mixed a documentary and editorial photography approach throughout the day. During the candid moments, I focused on capturing the real emotions — the hugs, the laughter, the happy tears, and the way Kate and Michael interacted naturally with their guests.
For portraits, we leaned into a more editorial and romantic style while still keeping everything relaxed and authentic. This combination created a gallery that felt elegant and artistic, but still true to who they are as a couple.
That balance is one of my favorite ways to photograph weddings. I love creating images that feel timeless and beautiful, while also telling the real story of the day.

Sunset Portraits at Great Marsh Estate
Later in the evening, we stepped outside for sunset portraits, and the light could not have been more perfect. These portraits were soft, romantic, and full of that dreamy feeling Kate had envisioned for the day.
Sunset portraits are always such a special part of a wedding timeline because they give the couple a few quiet minutes together after the ceremony and reception begin. For Kate and Michael, it was the perfect way to capture the romance of the day in a peaceful and beautiful setting.

A Sweet Reception and a Fun Dance Floor
Their reception was full of warmth, joy, and connection. Kate and Michael made time to talk with guests at each table, which made the evening feel personal and intimate. It was clear how loved they are by their family and friends.
After dinner and sunset portraits, everyone gathered on the dance floor to celebrate. The night ended with so much laughter, movement, and joy as they danced the night away with the people they love most.

Kate and Michael’s wedding at Great Marsh Estate was the perfect mix of romantic, timeless, documentary, and editorial. It was the kind of day that felt elegant without being forced, emotional without being overly posed, and completely true to them.
If you are planning a Great Marsh Estate wedding or looking for a Virginia wedding photographer who captures your day with a mix of documentary storytelling and editorial portraits, this venue is such a beautiful place for a romantic wedding celebration.
